Last week, I was hiking in the mountains and saw a coyote for the first time.
When it saw me and my little dog, it ran off almost immediately.

This Thursday, I saw it again, looks. like the same coyote.
Same as before, it spotted us from a distance and turned away right away.

Then on Friday, we ran into it once more.
This time felt a little different.

It didn’t run.
This time, it didn’t run at all.

I stopped from far away, and it stopped too.
We stood at a safe distance, watching each other.

My dog didn’t react either, as if it hadn’t even noticed the coyote.

I blew my whistle a few times, no effect at all.

It seemed like it didn’t hear anything. It watched us for a while, then slowly continued on its way.

I kept walking as well.

Can coyotes become friends with people? On second thought, maybe I should just buy a louder whistle.
